On March 4th and March 11th the ArtForms Chamber Competition was held at Temple Newsam House. The competition is an opportunity for young instrumentalists to develop their independent music making skills. Often the groups rehearse without adult help, and learn the skills of both leading and following. The groups perform in the lovely surroundings of the gallery at Temple Newsam, in front of a supportive audience, and receive constructive feedback from expert judges.
This year Abbey Grange Academy won the woodwind category, and received highly commended in both the woodwind and strings categories. Roundhay School won the strings category and Allerton High School received highly commended in the woodwind category.
The quality and variety of music making was fantastic! All winners and highly commended groups will be performing at the Winners’ Concert at Seven Arts, Chapel Allerton, from 7pm on 28 April. This is in conjunction with Roots Alive, the fabulous City of Leeds Youth Music folk group.
