Child Friendly Leeds celebrates 10 years!

A compassionate, economically strong and successful city has children and young people at its heart. From the influential first years of life through a child’s education to the care and love they receive growing up – these are the things that shape us and our communities.

“What is it like to be a child or young person in Leeds, and how can we make it better?”

Child Friendly Leeds was launched by Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh as part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations in 2012. Since then, a growing number of partners across the city have been working together to create better outcomes for children and young people in Leeds. You can read more about our journey on the Leeds Relational Practice Centre, here.

Over the last 10 years, the city has embraced this ambition and we are proud of partnerships that have developed across the city between Child Friendly Leeds Ambassadors and services working with families to helping to improve outcomes for children and young people. Children and young peoples voices are at the heart of our approach and will continue to shape our priorities and plans for the years to come!

Celebrating 10 years of Child Friendly Leeds

We have had a special 10th birthday logo designed, which we will be using to brand a range of events throughout 2022. Child Friendly Leeds is a city-wide ambition and we would like to invite you to use this logo for any relevant events you may be organising over this period and ask you share any events you may have planned for us to promote city-wide.

Nominate in the Child Friendly Leeds Awards

The prestigious city-wide event celebrates all the work that is happening across the city to make Leeds the best place for children and young people to grow up in. Sadly we could not run the annual Child Friendly Leeds awards last year due to covid restrictions but we are planning a 10th birthday Awards event in partnership with young people at City Varieties Music Hall in July. Finalists will be invited to the Child Friendly Leeds Awards 2022 and so would value your help in promoting the opportunity to make a nomination and for you to make nominations!

We are on the lookout for truly inspiring stories about the amazing people, places and organisations that help make Leeds the best city for children and young people to grow up in, especially in light of the pandemic. The deadline for nominations is Friday 25 March 10pm.
